Thursday, November 13, 2008 from 9:30 AM - 4:15 PM (GMT)
There is an established need for children and young people to be leading and influencing action that impacts upon them as individuals and society as a whole. As leaders of services that affect their lives, are we equipped to empower them to lead? Participation Works is hosting a national conference focusing on young people's empowerment and leadership.
Delegates will engage with experts in the field in a number of interactive discussion tables. The conference will be a great networking opportunity for everyone involved in participation and who are eager to engage children and young people in leadership roles.
Speakers include:
* James Cathcart, CEO, British Youth Council
* Andy Hamflett, CEO, UK Youth Parliament
* Liam Webber, Young Advisor and Young Mayor of Lewisham
* Nathan Singleton, Director of Families and Young People, Lifeline Project
* Adam Nichols, CEO, Changemakers
Round table discussions will focus on the following topics:
* Engaging young people in decision making and governance
* Children and young people in leadership roles
* Examples of successful young leaders
* Importance of young representation
* Young leaders vs. adult leaders
* Lessons learned from young people led social enterprises
* Young people leading their care
* Young people leading budgets
